In eighteen minutes from Fordon to Bydgoszcz
The railway line from Bydgoszcz to Fordon is undergoing a thorough modernization, which will not only increase the speed of our regional passenger trains but also improve travel comfort. Passengers can already use the rebuilt platform in Fordon, and in a few months they will also benefit from the new Bydgoszcz Stary Fordon stop. Travel is also being made easier thanks to an increased number of connections. The Marshal’s Office, which organizes passenger rail transport in the region, funds twenty connections on this route.
“By jointly investing in railway stops, we are giving passengers modern infrastructure where they can safely and comfortably wait for trains,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Trains are back
The Bydgoszcz Fordon railway stop is undergoing major modernization, during which platform no. 2 was built from scratch and has now been completed and opened for use. The new, higher platform structure makes it easier for passengers to board trains heading toward Bydgoszcz. The platform is also equipped with a shelter, benches, lighting, and information boards with the current timetable.
After completing this stage of work, trains returned to the Bydgoszcz Wschód – Unisław Pomorski line. Since June, the number of daily connections on this route has doubled—from 10 to 20.
A new stop
The construction work on this route is not over yet. The project’s contractor, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK), will begin modernization of the first platform and the expansion of the track with an overhead catenary system. Once completed, the current Bydgoszcz Fordon stop will once again become a railway station after 30 years, allowing trains heading toward Chełmża via Ostromecko and Unisław to pass each other.
A brand-new stop, Stary Fordon, will also be built from scratch on the Bydgoszcz Wschód – Bydgoszcz Fordon line, located on the northern side of the viaduct along Fordońska Street.
The project also includes the installation of modern railway traffic control systems, the modernization of the pedestrian crossing extending Wardyńskiego Street, and the renovation of the viaduct over Jana Brzechwy Street. Once all work is completed, passenger trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h, and the journey from Fordon to Bydgoszcz Główna station will take only 18 minutes.
Closer to residents
At the request of the regional government, PKP PLK has built and modernized railway infrastructure to adapt it to the changing settlement network in the region.
Newly built railway stops:
- Tuchola Rudzki Most
- Grudziądz Tuszewo
- Grudziądz Śródmieście
- Grudziądz Rządz
- Dąbrowa Chełmińska Centrum
- Grzybno (Chełmno County)
- Trzeciewnica (Nakło County)
In previous years, the regional government, using funds from the Regional Operational Programme of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, supported the reconstruction of railway stations in Solec Kujawski, Wąbrzeźno, and Tuchola.
Railways are our priority
As part of the BiT City project, funded by the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme, the Bydgoszcz Błonie stop was built. The Bydgoszcz Leśna and Bydgoszcz Bielawy stops were also modernized. A new tram line connecting the Fordon district with the city center was built as well. The two flagship railway investments commissioned a decade ago—the Bydgoszcz Główna and Toruń stations—significantly improved passenger service at these two major transport hubs.
Passengers also benefit from the completely rebuilt Włocławek Główny and Janikowo stations.
The regional government, which organizes passenger rail services in the region, is subsidizing carriers (Arriva and Polregio) with PLN 200 million this year. Thanks to this subsidy, within the Kujawsko-Pomorskie fare system, passengers pay 40% less for tickets compared to the base price—PLN 4.70 for the first 10 kilometers and PLN 0.2462 for each additional kilometer.
The regional government also covers the costs of access to railway infrastructure and station fees, allocating PLN 33 million annually from the regional budget for this purpose.
