35 Years of the Addiction Treatment Unit in Czerniewice

The detoxification ward “Czerniewice,” operating as part of the Regional Center for Addiction and Co-addiction Therapy in Toruń, celebrated its 35th anniversary. The jubilee ceremony was attended by regional councilor Jacek Gajewski.

“Congratulations on this beautiful anniversary, and thank you to everyone who helps hundreds of people each year return to healthy, sober lives,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “I bow my head to the doctors, therapists, nurses, and all members of the staff who, for 35 years, have supported people in the most difficult moments of their lives with dedication, commitment, and compassion.”

The 24-hour Detoxification Unit on Włocławska Street has existed since 1990. Each year, around 400 people addicted to alcohol and psychoactive substances receive treatment there. Therapeutic activities are also conducted for individuals struggling with behavioral addictions. The therapy program lasts seven weeks.

The Regional Center for Addiction and Co-addiction Therapy includes several facilities that provide healthcare services for both adults and children/adolescents — in outpatient (clinic) and inpatient (dedicated centers) settings. In addition to the 24-hour Detoxification Unit, these include:

  • the Regional Outpatient Clinic for Addiction and Co-addiction Therapy,
  • the Outpatient Addiction Therapy Clinic,
  • the Addiction Therapy Center, the Day Detoxification Unit,
  • the 24-hour Youth Addiction Therapy Ward,
  • and the Short-term Addiction Therapy Unit.

Since last year, Czerniewice has also been home to a new building of the 24-hour Youth Addiction Treatment Ward. This modern, fully equipped facility now has 40 beds (previously 26) and was built with funding from the Regional Operational Programme 2014–2020 (RPO).
