“Chopin, Chopin” to Open the Film Festival in Gdynia
The blockbuster “Chopin, Chopin”, directed by Michał Kwieciński, will open the jubilee 50th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia next Monday (September 22). One of the most expensive films in the history of Polish cinema was co-financed by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie regional government. This is not the only production supported through the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Film Fund.
“By investing in ambitious artistic projects, we promote the culture of our region. We want the Kujawsko-Pomorskie brand to be represented by top-tier projects and events,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
“Chopin, Chopin” will premiere in cinemas on October 10. The film will also be screened at the closing gala of Expo in Osaka (October 13).
Soon, other productions supported by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Film Fund and made in our region will premiere: “Good Home” by Wojtek Smarzowski, “Gingerbread Heart” by Piotr Wereśniak, “Murder at the Philharmonic” by Maciej Hydr, and “The Road Less Traveled” by Zuzanna Grabowska.
Later this year, filming will begin in our region for Krzysztof Zanussi’s latest film “Holocaust Offering” (Całopalenie) and the second part of the romantic comedy “Pretend Fiancé”.
Through the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Film Fund alone, in last year’s call for proposals we co-financed the production of five feature films. Previously, we supported, among others, the documentary “The Raftsman” by Ryszard Kruk, “Seasons” with Andrzej Seweryn, and “The Crossroads” with Jan Englert.
Over the past three years, the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Marshal’s Film Award has been given to eighteen artists, including Krzysztof Zanussi, Jan Englert, Katarzyna Figura, Magdalena Różczka, and Agnieszka Dulęba-Kasza.
