Billion-zloty investments in railway lines in Kujawy and Pomorze

On 150 kilometers of tracks in our region, the state-owned company PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK), which manages the national railway network, is carrying out large-scale investments. In just a few months, trains will be able to run at 160 kilometers per hour on the first modernized sections, and in the next steps we will be able to run more trains at more convenient times for passengers. Today at the Marshal’s Office, in the presence of Marshal Piotr Całbecki, Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak, and Vice-Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Jan Szyszko, agreements were signed concerning the financing of two such investment projects.

– “These are investments in railway infrastructure on lines of key importance. The result will be the elimination of the most critical bottlenecks in the network. In practice, this means a better timetable, one that responds more effectively to the expectations of residents,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

  • Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak
  • Vice-Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Jan Szyszko
  • MP Zbigniew Sosnowski

The agreements signed today at the Marshal’s Office concern the modernization, expansion, and electrification of line no. 201 on the Maksymilianowo–Kościerzyna section, and the modernization of line no. 353 on the Toruń Główny–Toruń Wschodni section. Both projects also include modernization of stations and stops, as well as the construction and modernization of engineering structures (railway bridges and viaducts).

The total value of both investments is PLN 7.4 billion. The funds come mainly from the centrally managed program European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment (FEnIKS) – with co-financing amounting to over PLN 5 billion, one of the largest in the history of EU programs in our country. The agreements were signed today in Toruń by Joanna Lech, Director of the government’s Center for EU Transport Projects (an agency under the Minister of Infrastructure that manages part of FEnIKS funds), and Małgorzata Kuczewska-Łaska, Director representing the beneficiary-investor, PKP PLK.

The signing ceremony, combined with a meeting with journalists, was also attended by the President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska, Vice-President of the Regional Parliament Przemysław Sznajdrowski, Regional Executive Board Member Dariusz Kurzawa, Regional Councillor Paweł Zgórzyński, Vice-Minister of Justice Arkadiusz Myrcha, MP Agnieszka Kłopotek, MP Marcin Skonieczka, and the Mayor of Toruń Paweł Gulewski.
