Waldemar Przybyszewski has died

It was with deep sadness that I received the news of the death of Waldemar Przybyszewski – a local government official, a social activist devoted to public service, whose many years of activity had a real impact not only on the development of the city of Toruń, but also on our entire region.

We met many years ago, when he was still working for the Toruń City Council. From the very beginning, he stood out for his consistency, work ethic and rare ability to build consensus across political divides. As chairman of the Toruń City Council, he was not only an efficient organiser, but also a man who always put the needs of the residents first. His style of work – concrete, matter-of-fact, but at the same time cordial – left a lasting mark on the city community.

In the regional parliament, where he had been a member since 2014, he chaired the Statutory Committee and the Infrastructure Committee. His commitment to the region’s affairs was deep and wise – he was aware that the development of the province required balance and care for each of its parts. He supported infrastructure investments and was active in matters related to healthcare and social policy.

He devoted an important part of his life to housing cooperatives. It was on his initiative that the Zieleniec and Bielawy housing estates were built in Toruń. He was active in the social councils of two important hospitals, in Toruń and Bydgoszcz, and in the Association of Councillors of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship, of which he was president. He was an authority – not only because of his experience, but also because of his kindness.

He was a man who listened – and acted. He always believed that politics was not a game, but a service.

Thank you for everything, Waldek. We will miss you very much.

Piotr Całbecki

Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship
