The Giantesses of Kujawsko-Pomorskie – congratulations to the winners!

Students from across the region have proven that the memory of outstanding women associated with Kujawsko-Pomorskie not only lives on, but is taking on a new, youthful tone. The creators of the best mini-biographical films received their awards today (2 June) in the ‘Giantesses of Kujawsko-Pomorskie – Courageous Women’ competition.

 

Knowledge about great people associated with our region builds regional identity and strengthens pride in who we are. The heroines of this edition are worth talking about! Thank you all for participating in this project,’ said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

 

Competition winners:

In the category for grades VI-VIII of primary schools:

  • 1st place – Armia Krajowa Primary School in Chełmce (Inowrocław County)
  • 2nd place – Primary School in Grzywna (Toruń County)
  • 3rd place – Primary School No. 3 in Brodnica

 

In the category for secondary school classes:

  • 1st place – Technical School Complex in Lipno
  • 2nd place – Bolesław Krzywousty High School No. 1 in Nakło nad Notecią
  • 3rd place – Food Industry School Complex and High School No. 8 in Toruń

 

The winners received their awards from Grażyna Troszyńska, director of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Teacher Education Centre in Włocławek, and Marcin Żynda, director of the Gen. Brig. Prof. Elżbieta Zawacka Pedagogical Library in Toruń.

 

The project ‘Giantesses of Kujawsko-Pomorskie– Courageous Women’ is implemented on the Edupolis.pl educational platform. Its content is enriched by online meetings with history enthusiasts and educational materials prepared by the Pedagogical Library in Toruń, the Provincial Pedagogical Library in Bydgoszcz and the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Teacher Education Centre in Włocławek.

 

This edition presents the profiles of:

  • Teresa Wieczorek-Ciepły – an athlete who won a complete set of Olympic medals (gold, silver and bronze), representative of the ŁKS and Zawisza Bydgoszcz sports clubs,
  • Izabela Zbiegniewska – a social activist and educator associated with Włocławek, involved in patriotic education,
  • Elżbieta Zawacka – liaison officer of the Polish Underground State from Toruń, the only woman among the Cichociemni (Silent Unseen),
  • Pola Negri – an icon of world cinema, originally from Lipno,
  • Maria Znamierowska-Prüfferowa – founder of one of the three independent ethnographic museums in Poland, professor at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń,
  • Maria Karłowska – nun and organiser of aid for women in difficult life situations. Founder and first superior general of the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence and blessed of the Catholic Church.

 

The previous edition was devoted to the profiles of outstanding doctors.
