Modern education the key to success

On 26 May, one of this year’s most important sessions of the provincial assembly will take place, during which a vote of confidence and discharge for the regional government will be held. The basis for the debate will be two documents: a report on the state of the voivodeship and a report on the implementation of the budget for last year. We present materials summarising the activities of the regional government in 2024.

The strength of the region’s development is its people: their knowledge, skills and activity. We financially support institutions and good initiatives, as well as young people who see the acquisition of knowledge as an opportunity for personal development and self-fulfilment. The activities of the local government in this area have an impact on the reality of all educational institutions in the region.

Education has been and continues to be a priority for the provincial government. We award scholarships for the best students, build modern teaching facilities and support the region’s flagship institutions in expanding their research capabilities and enriching their educational offers,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

We want children and young people to have the conditions to realise their full potential, which is why every year we award students from all types of schools with Marshall’s scholarships of up to PLN 5,000 a year. In 2024 alone, under three educational programmes, the money went to 1,356 students (Top Student of Kujawsko-Pomorskie II – 714, Professional Talents of Kujawsko-Pomorskie – 520, Top Student of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Plus – 122).

Thirty-six scholarship holders of the marshal of the voivodship and teachers awarded in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship Leader of Education 2023 competition as well as astro-base coordinators took part in a cruise on the STS Pogoria sailing ship through the Mediterranean Sea funded by the regional government.

Among the scholarship holders was also Zuzanna Orzechowska from the State Secondary Music School in Bydgoszcz, who this year achieved one hundred percent in all her secondary school subjects and received a unique distinction – the Swallow Statue.

In addition, 89 students of secondary schools run by county councils received social assistance scholarships (of PLN 3,000 each).

Additional classes

Thirty-one municipal and communal authorities from across the region are taking part in the regional government’s “Key to Learning 3.0” project, funded under our regional programme. The project, which includes extra-curricular activities and workshops, is aimed at pupils in primary 7 and 8, as well as their teachers. The aim is to raise the level of education and develop the so-called key competences of students, which should give young people a chance to continue their education at schools of their choice and function well in society.

  • pupils in grades 7. and 8.
  • 50 primary schools
  • budget PLN 6 million

(The other three are the Centre for Astronomical Education in Toruń, the Centre for Culture and Education in Inowrocław and the Centre for Culture and Education in Włocławek, which coordinates the didactic activities of astrobases throughout the region).

LAG: youth development

A large package of funds in our new operational programme includes money for projects supporting the development of young people. The grant competitions announced by the local action groups amounted to more than €2 million last year alone. This is money for youth clubs, which goes, among other things, towards the organisation of scientific workshops, sports activities and will enable the development of skills and interests.
