More Passengers, More Trains
Every year, more passengers use regional rail transport in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region. In 2024, nearly 8 million people traveled by train in the region. The number of train services is also increasing. Last year, regional passenger trains covered more than 6 million kilometers.
The regional self-government subsidizes passenger rail transport annually. Until 2030, these services will be provided by Arriva and Polregio, selected through a tender process. Last year, the region allocated 210 million PLN from its budget to support rail transport. Thanks to these subsidies, ticket prices for travel within Kujawsko-Pomorskie remain affordable. Additionally, the government covers infrastructure access fees and station charges paid to PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, amounting to 30 million PLN last year.
“I’m pleased that more and more people are using passenger rail services subsidized by the regional self-government. We adjust the timetable to meet residents’ needs, continuously modernize our train fleet, and increase the number of services. We are committed to investing in rail transport,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Not Only More Passengers
In the past year, 430,000 more passengers used rail transport in the region—an increase of 5.5% compared to 2023. There was also a rise in kilometers traveled: our trains covered 340,000 km more than the previous year. The number of train services increased by 6%.
New Services Attract High Demand
One of our successes was the seasonal direct connection from Toruń and Bydgoszcz to Kołobrzeg, which transported 8,000 passengers. This service will be included in this year’s summer schedule as well.
Since the beginning of 2025, regional trains have seen high demand. The newly introduced Barnim train from Bydgoszcz to Szczecin, launched in December, carries an average of 80 passengers daily in our region, with numbers exceeding 100 on weekends.
Improved Rail Service Quality
Regional train punctuality has reached over 98%, a notable achievement. Our trains undergo daily inspections by government officials. For several years, we have conducted over a thousand inspections annually, confirming the high quality of service.
The continuous improvement of rail transport quality and the expansion of the route network have led to increased expenditures. The 2023/2024 timetable cost the regional budget 210 million PLN, including over 30 million PLN for infrastructure access and station charges—an increase of 11.32% compared to the 2022/2023 period.
Lower Ticket Prices Thanks to Subsidies
For years, our passengers have benefited from lower ticket prices under the Kujawsko-Pomorskie tariff, which is 40% cheaper than standard rates. A single ticket for distances over 100 km remains fixed at 26.40 PLN, regardless of the distance traveled. This initiative encourages further travel within the region.
Trains Return to Ciechocinek
After 14 years, rail connections to Ciechocinek will return to the timetable this year.
