We Celebrate the Return of Kujawy and Pomerania to Free Poland

On January 20, 1920, Bydgoszcz rejoined the motherland. Today, on the 105th anniversary of this event, the city is hosting official celebrations attended by the Vice-Marshal of the Region, Zbigniew Ostrowski. Two days earlier, on January 18, similar events took place in Toruń, where the anniversary ceremony at the Old Town Square was attended by Marek Smoczyk, the Secretary of the Region.

The celebrations in Bydgoszcz began with the laying of flowers at the Cemetery of Bydgoszcz Heroes and at the plaque commemorating General Józef Dowbor-Muśnicki on the building of the Regional and Municipal Public Library. This was followed by a ceremonial Mass at the Bydgoszcz Cathedral, after which the main anniversary celebrations traditionally took place at the Old Market Square.

As part of the Toruń celebrations, flowers were laid at the monument of General Józef Haller, after which participants marched to the Old Town Square. In the Old Town Hall, a popular science event titled “A Meeting with Independence” was also held.
