Bydgoszcz – The Largest Construction Site in the Region

The budget for the upcoming year and the multiannual financial plan recently adopted by the regional council mark record-breaking investment allocations, including significant funding for Bydgoszcz. Among the largest projects is the long-awaited expansion of the Pomeranian Philharmonic.

“In the regional budget passed by the council, substantial funds have been earmarked for the region’s largest hubs. Major investments will take place in Bydgoszcz, which – thanks to the expansion of the Pomeranian Philharmonic, the Oncology Center, the Regional Children’s Hospital, the regional library, and the opera house – will become the largest construction site in our region. These planned investments will amount to 1.5 billion PLN in the near future. Undoubtedly, they will enhance the supra-regional potential of our capital cities,” emphasized Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski during a press conference in Bydgoszcz focused on the city’s budgetary investments.

We initially planned to secure funds for the Philharmonic expansion through government programs. Since our request was denied, we decided to allocate our own funds. This represents a significant financial effort for the Regional Self-Government,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the presentation of the 2025 budget.

The Regional Self-Government approved the plans for the Pomeranian Philharmonic expansion in 2017. The project includes a small concert hall with at least 350 seats and an underground parking system. The investment, valued at 300 million PLN, will allocate 14 million PLN in 2025 to begin the work.

Expansion of Opera Nova and the Regional Library

The ongoing expansion of Opera Nova will cost 90 million PLN next year and 170 million PLN in total. The new four-story wing, with a usable area of 6,000 square meters, will house a chamber opera hall with 500 seats, exhibition space, a cinema, and a terrace overlooking the Brda River, as well as a two-level underground parking lot. The project is set to be completed by spring 2025.

Following the modernization of the Copernicus Library, the Regional and Municipal Public Library in Bydgoszcz is embarking on a significant modernization project. Plans include conservation and adaptive renovation of historic buildings, a glass roof over the courtyard, construction of a storage facility, and the purchase of new equipment. The facility will gain year-round space for cultural events, a children’s picture book workshop, and a gaming room. The project, valued at 42 million PLN, will see 17 million PLN allocated next year.

Investments in Medical Infrastructure

A major investment in medical infrastructure is the modernization and expansion of the main buildings of the Oncology Center, valued at 510 million PLN, complemented by the acquisition of cutting-edge equipment. At the Provincial Children’s Hospital, an 85-million-PLN state-of-the-art diagnostic center is being constructed. Additionally, the Marshal’s Pulmonology Center is undergoing modernization, with ongoing construction and new equipment purchases totaling 50 million PLN.

Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski’s press conference in Bydgoszcz was also attended by Regional Councilors Anna Niewiadomska and Prof. Jacek Woźny.
