Success is a credit to the whole team

Interview with Director Marzanna Ossowska, who heads the Health Care Complex in Chelmno

The hospital you are in charge of is one of the three hospitals in our region that ranked high in the recently published ranking by BFF Banking Group and the Rzeczpospolita journal, which identifies the best-managed facilities. What do you think determined this success?

Fourth place in the category of hospitals with a NHF contract of up to PLN 99 million is a great distinction for us, and at the same time a commitment to further improvement of measures to ensure the proper quality of health services provided and to maintain optimal financial management. Such a high position in this ranking is thanks to the entire team (…), for which I sincerely thank everyone.

The hospital’s asset is certainly its well-regarded obstetrics segment. How do you convince young mothers?

Thanks to the great commitment of the staff of the obstetrics-gynecology-neonatal division, we meet the expectations of parents-to-be. We have created a family stay room, we periodically organize open days of the department, [parents of babies born in our hospital] are offered the opportunity to take free instructional classes in Shantal massage [it’s an infant massage technique – ed. Interview of the week]. We also offer a variety of ways to relieve labor pains, and in the near future we will develop our offer of anesthesia for physiological births. We also have a 24-hour lactation center operating in the ward and offer breastfeeding support.

Many county hospitals are currently facing difficulties due to delays in the flow of funds from the National Health Service.

The ranking was for 2023 – for this period the facility received funding from the National Health Service for the performance of services [adequate] to the actual performance. Currently, we have realized payments to actual performance for the second quarter [of this year] and are awaiting settlement of the third quarter. It is important [in this situation] to maintain liquidity and expect reliable valuation of services, as this will allow us to operate the facility smoothly.
