Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region is located in the north-central part of Poland and covers an area of 17,971.55 square kilometers, ranking 10th in the country in terms of area. As of September 30, 2024, the region is inhabited by nearly 2 million people (also 10th in Poland). As one of two provinces in the country, it has two capitals: Bydgoszcz, – seat of the voivode (government representative), and Toruń, with the Marshal’s Office (head of the regional self-government). Administratively, it is divided into 19 counties and four cities with county rights and 144 municipalities.
In 2024, more than 228 thousand business entities in the REGON register were registered in the region, which gave more than 1,000 entities per 10 thousand residents. In 2022. The largest number of business entities at the end of 2024 operated in the PKD sections: G Wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, including motorcycles (approx. 45 thousand entities), F Construction (over 34 thousand entities), M Professional, scientific and technical activities (almost 20 thousand entities) and C Manufacturing (approx.. 19 thousand entities). In total, business entities operating in these four indicated sections accounted for more than half of all business entities operating in 2024 in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region.
More than 60% of business entities were registered in cities, with the highest concentration of business entities in the central part of the province, i.e. Bydgoszcz and Toruń and the surrounding counties.
The value of the index of industrial production sold for Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region at the end of 2024 ranks it 8th in Poland. The dominant place in this respect is occupied by the food industry, perfectly linked to the raw material base of the province. Numerous large companies with foreign capital have located themselves in this industry. It is also important to appreciate the many smaller manufacturers that are consolidating their good position in the market. A large role in the region’s industry is also played by the wood and paper, electrical machinery and chemical industries.
Agriculture is also important to the region’s economy. The province’s agricultural area is 1,045 thousand hectares, of which almost 99% stand as a land with good agricultural condition. Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region ranks top in the country in the production of cattle, pork (4th and 3 places in the country respectively in 2024), as well as crop production, mainly potatoes and sugar beets. The share of our province in the production of cereals, potatoes, rapeseed and canola oil is also large. The agricultural potential of Kuyavia and Pomerania is influenced by a good agrarian structure, high agricultural culture, and regular training trips of our farmers to partner countries providing them with valuable exchanges of experience.
