Energy Mill Under Construction

At a cost of 50 million PLN, a facility for a future cultural and educational institution, managed by the regional Kujawsko-Pomorskie Center for Education and Innovation, is being built in Grudziądz. The contractor has already completed necessary demolition work, with the installation of new foundation elements and renovation work set to begin soon.

“I’m pleased that this long-awaited project is now in the implementation phase. Grudziądz is a city with great potential, and this new institution will enhance the local cultural and educational offerings,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The revitalization of the historic Upper Mill in Grudziądz and the creation of the Energy Mill is a joint initiative of the regional and municipal governments. The former grain mill, following a comprehensive restoration under the supervision of conservation experts, will be transformed into a public space focused on culture, education, and artistic events. The mission of the new center will be to present and promote the history and cultural heritage of the city and the region, as well as to popularize knowledge in the fields of science, technology, and the humanities.

The construction work is being carried out by Fijałkowski Construction Company from Toruń, and it is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026. The project is funded by our regional program, European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021-2027.

The history of Grudziądz’s Upper Mill dates back to the 15th century. The original structure was destroyed during the Swedish Deluge, and the current building was constructed at the end of the 19th century. Located in the city center (at the corner of Maria Curie-Skłodowska and Młyńska streets), the site consists of three segments (six-, five-, and four-story buildings). In the revitalized historic section, there will be seven large rooms available for exhibitions, workshops, and conferences (ranging from 110 to 180 square meters), a performance hall with seating for 170, and a café with a mezzanine. The newly added section will house a smaller conference room (45 square meters) and office space.
